The Advanced Institute of Convergence Technology was constructed within the Industry and Academic Consortium R&D site located in Iui-dong, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do. The floor area of the Institutes is about 18,000 Pyong(59,40㎡) and construction finished in March 2008. The budget for its operation is assured for the next 7 years.
The Institutes will pursue collaborative research in the application of the latest technologies in IT, BT and NT, with the objective of commercialization. It is currently organized various research centers under four research institutes and areas of research will remain flexible in order to best meet society's demands in cutting edge technology. The four research areas meet the objective and goals of the Advanced Institute of Convergence Technology. The research programs under each research institute are selected for their originality as well as characteristics that reflect convergence technology. Research is managed flexibly and, depending on the topic and the outcome of the research can be expanded or otherwise modified.
The Management Committee is in charge of accepting, reviewing and selecting research proposals thereby promoting new research in convergence technology. Periodic review of research is conducted in order to determine expansion or modification of research.
The four institutes within the Advanced Institute of Convergence Technology pursue funding, industry and academic collaborative research, conferences, workshops, colloquia, special lectures and other academic activities within and outside of Korea. Each institute will also operate educational programs on the latest convergence technology which are open to universities and industry located in Gyeonggi Province. In order to promote collaborative research, the Center for Industry and Academic Cooperation is in charge of creating beneficial ties between large, medium and small enterprises and venture companies. In addition, retraining and re-education programs are provided in order to fulfill the Institutes' objective of educating and cultivating researchers in cutting edge technology.
