- “AICT is South Korea’s first and largest research institute dedicated to the research and development of convergence technology. In March 2008, AICT was jointly established by the Gyeonggi provincial government and Seoul National University to undertake the convergence of diverse fields in science and technology for the benefit of public end users. AICT has become the powerhouse of innovations
- an essential engine for the next generation.”
- AICT was established in March 2008 under the auspices of the Gyeonggi provincial government. The Institute is located in Gyeonggi province, the hub of South Korean industry, where a number of global corporations and manufacturing facilities are situated. In collaboration with eminent faculty members of Seoul National University, research workforces in local universities and industries have partnered with AICT to conduct research and development in the field of convergence technology, which encompasses a wide range of disciplines including nanotechnology, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, big data, and ICT.
As one of the top research institutes with strong academic and financial supports, AICT is the pathfinder of modern technology, facing head on the challenges of the future and working towards sustainable prosperity for the next generation. Cooperating with enthusiastic players in research, development and business, AICT boasts outstanding infrastructure and competitive research capability. Moving forward, it strives to become the center of regional, national, and also global R&D networks, where true convergence of knowledge and technology can be realized, unrestricted by boundaries.
- “AICT pursues dual missions, one of which is the development of science and technology for public benefit. We will branch out from local communities to ultimately form new industries and businesses in the national and global arena. The other is to bring lofty scientific innovations down to the earth, promising a sustainable society.”
- The development of technology has provided unsurpassed convenience to the modern society. However, its rapid growth drives the standard for convenience as well as the cost of research evermore higher. Oftentimes, the needs of the public sector require advanced research in science and technology but are rarely supplied by the private sector because the research is deemed unprofitable.
However, ubiquitous healthcare, public safety, and many other public benefits are well within grasp of the public. Tremendous research output from universities and research institutes keeps coming out and being saved in the public archives, but is rarely attended. This dormant potential should be harnessed to provide practical solutions for the betterment of society. Such efforts would be to connect universities and research institutes to developers and investors, eventually delivering technology-based services to the public.
Convergence will play a pivotal role as the link between research and development. It also will break down the barrier between development and business. We firmly believe this is the answer to the pressing concerns of the present era. AICT embarks on a new beginning in 2018 as an independent corporation jointly funded by the Gyeonggi provincial government and Seoul National University.
Every personnel in AICT will give unwavering effort to make monumental contributions to our community, country, and humanity.
Thank you!
