Abstract
Liquid crystal (LC) with chirallity can form a self aligned helicoidally photonic band structure (PBS) with nano scale periodicity without any complex process. This LC PBS system has benefit of a good optical quality over large area. Additional benefit of LC PBS is the wavelength control of the photonic band gap (PBG) can be adjusted using the sensitivity of the periodic pitch against the external stresses. In this talk, the electrical tuning method which is desirable for device application will be discussed.
