Title : Exploring Game Elements Affecting Novices" Engagement in Learning Computer Programming Speaker : Michael Jongseon Lee (PhD Candidate at the University of Washington Information School) Date & Time : 2012. 3. 22. 목요일 12:00 Where : 융대원 D-122 Engagement is a necessary condition for learning, especially for challenging topics such as computer programming. In this talk, I describe two projects using Gadget, an online game designed to investigate the factors that influence beginners" engagement while learning computer programming. The first study examines how framing the computer as a collaborator instead of an adversary, who takes the blame for coding mistakes, affects novice"s engagement playing the game. The second study explores how the purposefulness of the goals and data elements novices interact with throughout the game affects their engagement.
